AWLGRIP HDT DEVELOPED FOR THE INTENSE CONDITIONS OF THE VOLVO OCEAN RACE

A recent addition to the Awlgrip range, Awlgrip HDT (High Definition Technology) is a durable polyurethane clearcoat with repairability and a glossy, mirror-like finish, and was recently put to the test in one of the most challenging sailing events in the world – the Volvo Ocean Race.

AkzoNobel was the official coatings supplier to the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race through the International and Awlgrip brands, providing each boat with the ultimate in protection and aesthetics, and supporting the sustainability campaign that accompanied the race through low VOC coatings. With the race encompassing over 45,000 nautical miles and some of the most extreme sailing environments in the world, this provided the perfect opportunity to prove the outstanding performance of Awlgrip’s topcoat range.

Awlgrip HDT has been developed in coordination with the VOR, designed with repairability and durability in mind to survive the harsh conditions of the race, while complementing the 18,000+ colors of available with the Awlcraft SE basecoat to create a high-gloss, resilient finish for each boat.

“We’re really proud and excited to offer customers the chance to benefit from high performance coatings technology which has been tested in some of the world’s most extreme environments,” said Hans Slegtenhorst, Global Segment Manager, Yacht. “We spent more than three years developing Awlgrip HDT and worked closely with the Volvo Ocean Race Boatyard team to fine-tune its formulation. It means yacht owners can now enjoy a longer lasting, easier to maintain finish – safe in the knowledge that the product has passed the toughest of tests.”

Choose Awlgrip HDT – the clearcoat with proven excellence, developed for the toughest conditions and available now for your boat.
